CoolSculpting or controlled freezing is a non-invasive and permanent method of reducing stubborn fat. This effective treatment requires no anesthesia, offers no discomfort and allows patients the chance to catch up on emails, read or listen to music throughout the procedure.
What is CoolScupting?
The treatment was discovered by Harvard scientists who observed that pockets of fat cells could be targeted, frozen and eliminated without damaging surrounding skin cells. A pinch of fat at a time is placed into the CoolSculpting applicator and that fat is suctioned into the device. The temperature significantly drops to a point at which the fat cells crystallize, thereby killing the cells. 22% of fat cells in any area on average are permanently destroyed. It has been determined that the best areas to target for this procedure are the:
- Upper Arms
- Love Handles
CoolSculpting is completely non-surgical so there is no need to take time off work or prepare for the procedure in any way. Most patients finish their treatment and return to work or their regular routine the same day. Due to the limited discomfort and minimal pain, this treatment is also preferable for anyone who is nervous about undergoing cosmetic procedures, as no anesthesia is used.
Who is CoolSculpting for?
The best candidates for CoolSculpting are men and women that are very close to their ideal weight and are in general good health. It is important for potential candidates to note that this is not a treatment used to induce significant weight loss. CoolSculpting specifically targets stubborn pockets of fat that have been resistant to traditional diet and exercise.
CoolSculpting is very beneficial for patients that exercise because many in the fitness industry will rightly say that you can’t target single body parts with diet and exercise, however, with this treatment, it is possible. Losing too much weight to target a specific area can make anyone look too thin, or others lose weight in the chest when trying to lose in the abdomen. This is a targeted approach.
How Long Does It Take to Work?
Many patients notice results immediately and additional treatments after the initial procedure may be required to achieve optimal results. The majority of patients will notice results in 3 weeks but the most dramatic results are at their peak by 1-3 months. More treatments usually produce a dramatic result.
Is the Result Permanent?
The CoolSculpting applicator freezes fat cells to the point of permanent death. In this sense, it is a permanent procedure. The patient’s commitment to a healthy lifestyle following the treatments will be imperative when it comes to maintaining results. If a patient were to gain weight, fat cells would fill in the surrounding cells and the patient would, of course, gain back some fat in the treated areas. It is important to maintain any exercise regimen and healthy diet that the patient had before the treatment. CoolSculpting is a great boost and extra help when it comes to achieving your ideal shape and figure.
